Turner Trade
The Turner Trade provides advanced practical training in machining and precision component manufacturing. This course is designed to develop skilled technicians capable of producing high-accuracy metal components for manufacturing, production, and industrial sectors.
Students are trained to manufacture precision parts using conventional lathes as well as CNC turning machines.
Key Training Areas
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
- Holding and centering workpieces using chucks, fixtures, and dial indicators
- Selection, grinding, and setting of cutting tools
- Setting machine speed, feed rate, and coolant systems
- Performing turning operations such as facing, taper turning, and thread cutting
- Gear arrangement for screw cutting and thread production
- Measuring components using calipers, micrometers, vernier gauges, and other precision instruments
- CNC turning machine setup and basic part programming
- Machine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication
- Tool reconditioning and minor machine adjustments
