‘Plant Trees, Protect the Future’ – Key Message at World Environment Day Programme
World Environment Day was celebrated at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara ITI, Venur, under the joint auspices of Mahatma Gandhi Gram Panchayat, Kukkedi, the Forest Department, Venur, and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Kukkedi-Nittade.
On the occasion, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Mr. P. Sridhar planted saplings and delivered an informative address to the students on the importance of environmental conservation. He stated that groundwater levels have drastically declined in recent years and that, despite drilling borewells to depths of nearly 1,000 feet, water is often not available. He emphasized that, for the welfare of future generations, it is essential to ensure clean air, a healthy environment, and nutritious food. He urged everyone to plant and nurture trees in their homes, highlighting that protecting the environment is a collective social responsibility.
The chief guests included Mr. Bharath U.G., Range Forest Officer, Venur Range; Mr. D. Sudhakar, Panchayat Development Officer, Gram Panchayat; and Mr. Shekhar Kukkedi, Vice-Chairman, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee. They addressed the students and shared valuable information on environmental protection and sustainable living.
The programme was presided over by Mr. Vishweshwara Prasad K.R., Principal of the institution.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Kumari Poojya. Junior Training Officer Mr. Prasanna V.T. welcomed the gathering. The event was compered by Junior Training Officer Mr. Sathish, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Junior Training Officer Mr. Vinaya Chandra Raj.
